Doctor of Dental Medicine
I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology with distinction at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. I then returned to my home province and graduated in 1997 from the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon with a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree with Deanβs Honours. After completing my formal dental studies, I enrolled in a fifth option year where I had the privilege of curating a tailor-made off base externship of advanced learning.
For this fifth year, I enjoyed a quarter year in Saskatoon for Plastic Surgery, a quarter year in Regina for Ear, Nose Throat Surgery, and a half a year in San Antonio, Texas, for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. These externships gave me a broad insight and valuable post-graduate knowledge to draw from for how to design with divine golden proportion, and it has provided me with perspective when providing recommendations for other wonderful esthetic treatments available.
Whether Iβm providing a client with a new smile and facial injectables or envisioning where I propose to move the teeth with Invisalign before we wrap the smiling teeth with thin shells of porcelain to rejuvenate the worn and tired teeth - all these energy-restoring elective cosmetic procedures we provide navigate some of the most fun and inspiring dental disciplines in my profession. I am happiest providing and inspiring these beneficial elective areas of dentistry because with these treatments, your smile can easily be one of your best features.
I couldnβt be more delighted for being selected all those years ago to perform an oral surgery externship at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio to advance my experience in surgical procedures, implant dentistry and wisdom tooth removal. I draw the most from this part of my background as it buttressed my entire core foundation making it more solid with the broad perspective and insight it provided into the planning and engineering of loads generated with what we ultimately position and build in a mouth. All these variables come together nicely when we are replacing teeth and providing esthetic outcomes. From our experience we know what works and what doesnβt work.
Continuing education is the cornerstone of my practice. The most beautiful part of dentistry is that it is always evolving and becoming more comfortable and predictable with new advancements to learn each year. I am thrilled to offer you the latest in digital technology, treatment, service and care in a refreshing, progressive facility we call home.
I strive to provide dentistry that is transparent and comfortable for all clients. I paint a clear and accurate picture of each treatment to help clients understand their existing conditions and the solutions available to help them achieve brilliant smiles and a path to planning perpetual wellness.
I have proudly made my home in Calgary since 1998 where I live with my wife and son. Family is very important to me; my wife and I greatly enjoy being parents and encouraging our son to live life to the fullest. I also love being in the outdoors and enjoy biking, hiking, and snowboarding. Fun Fact: I am a recreational pilot.
We are a locally owned health care business that gives back and supports local.
Doctor of Dental Surgery
I graduated from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA in 1998. Post graduately, I completed a surgical residency at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio; a level 1 trauma center.
At MetroHealth, I gained substantial experience performing surgical dentistry and coordinating many complex dental cases. I have been an avid, life-long learner and continue to invest heavily in furthering my dental education.
Over the past 20 years my dental education has been primarily focussed on the areas of dental implants, gum and bone grafting and sedation dentistry. I offer IV sedation to my patients for several reasons: fear and anxiety (I completely understand that not everyone loves going to the dentist!), medical issues which can make providing dentistry the traditional way very challenging, or people who would like to get a large amount of treatment done in a single session.
I grew up in Edmonton where I achieved my undergraduate degree at the University of Alberta and have been living in Calgary since 2001. I moved here because of the proximity to the mountains and my love of snowboarding. When I am not working, I love spending time in the mountains, motorcycling, and traveling. Recently I was able to combine two of my hobbies by doing a motorcycle trip through South Africa!
Administration / Practice Management
I was delighted to join Dr Donnellyβs team in 2019. You will find me at front reception providing administrative duties with the goal of making your experience with our team as easy and transparent as possible.
I bring decades of accounting, and administration experience to the team. I started my career in banking in a small community northeast of Calgary. After thirteen years in the banking industry, I found a new fit with an opportunity to expand my knowledge in the dental field. What a pleasant surprise!
I have now been in the dental industry for over forty years in the areas of management, treatment coordination, administration, and human resources. It is my privilege to extend my resources to help make everything straight-forward for you.
My key areas of expertise are financial arrangements (for both insured and uninsured clients) and keeping current with hundreds of dental insurance benefits plans finding the best value for you from your plan.
I am very proud to be a part of Dr. Donnellyβs dental team and I strive to make all our clients feel welcome. Consistent, positive experiences are my top priority.
In my spare time I enjoy music, camping, spending time with my family and my Shihtzu, Malea.
Administration / Treatment Coordination
I was excited to join Dr Donnellyβs team at Northwest Dental Centre in 2021 in administration. Fun Fact: we first worked together in the late 1990s /early 2000s in the Nosehill area before Dr Donnelly established his own family practice at Northwest Dental Centre.
Iβm a born and raised Albertan and graduated from the University of Calgary with a Psychology degree.
I have over 25 years of dental experience including assisting, sterilization and administration. Although cross-trained, you will see me at front reception providing new client onboarding and client concierge services for complex treatment plans.
I love getting to know our clients and understanding their needs to achieve their best oral health.
In my spare time I enjoy fitness, gardening, traveling and spending quality time with my husband and three sons.
Administration / Treatment Coordination / Sterilization
I joined Dr Donnellyβs team at Northwest Dental Centre in 2005. I have been fortunate to be part of a team culture that enables continuous professional development and sharing of knowledge and skills. My participation in this culture has allowed me to be cross-trained and flexible in client care delivery.
This cross-training has broadened my skills and now allows me to work with front reception and directly on the clinic floor with the doctor teams utilizing my versatility.
I am delighted to be a part of this amazing team of like-minded dental professionals. We work effectively to bring our best for our clients. Please let me know how I can serve you best.
I love to shop and spend time with my family in my spare time.
Registered Dental Hygienist
Iβm a UBC alumnus with a degree in Dental Hygiene, and I am thrilled to share my knowledge and expertise back with my hometown of Calgary!
My passion towards dentistry began at the age of 15 when I started volunteering with marginalized populations and saw their lack of access to dental care. I decided then that I wanted to pursue a career in Dental to make a positive change in peoplesβ lives!
My number one priority is to have a strong client relationship and to coach and empower my clients to make the best-informed decisions for their dental health. I always take the time to listen and answer questions and concerns with integrity and transparency. In my role as a Dental Hygienist, I provide gentle, comfortable preventive oral health care and I respectfully educate you about periodontal disease, its links to systemic disease and its detrimental effects on your overall health. It is my privilege to offer Dental Hygiene as a part of this great team of ours where I will consistently put your interests, values, and needs first.
A fun fact about me is that I volunteered and piloted the first Dental Hygiene Humanitarian Mission for the UBC Faculty of Dentistry in Vietnam where we provided dental care in multiple orphanages, and we helped spread awareness about oral cancer.
On my off hours you can find me in the gym staying active, travelling to new places, and spending time with my family!
Registered Dental Hygienist
Hi, I'm Shirley and I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry at the University of Alberta. I continued at the University of Alberta and graduated with a diploma in Dental Hygiene.
It is hard to believe I have been working as a dental hygienist for 26 years. The work has been challenging and fulfilling over the years and I'm proud to develop my skills to provide this level of care. I thrive to be thorough while keeping my client's comfort level in mind. I believe in open communication to improve the hygiene experience. The dental environment can be a very stressful place for most individuals and I have found over the years that building trust and the relationship between the client and operator can lessen the anxiety this environment can bring. In these 26 years, I have found my role as a dental hygienist has become more important as we learn about the link between dental diseases and our health, and the care I provide has become so much more meaningful.
As for my time away from work, I enjoy yoga and pilates as a way to decompress from a day at work. I am trying to meditate, although I would say I'm not very good at it. I love spending time in my kitchen cooking and baking. And I especially love spending time with my husband and two sons.
Dental Assistant
My name is Amanda. I am a dental assistant with my orthodontic module. I joined Dr. Donnelly in summer of 2024. I love that dentistry is constantly evolving and Dr. Donnelly is always striving to provide the best care through continued education and the latest technology.
With over 10 years of dental assisting experience, my passion for dentistry has only grown stronger as Iβve had the privilege of working in various aspects of the field. From the very start of my career, Iβve been captivated by the ability to improve patients' health and confidence, whether through routine care or specialized treatments.
Iβve always been dedicated to making each patient feel comfortable and well-cared for, understanding that dental visits can often be intimidating. I focus on creating a positive experience, ensuring patients feel supported and informed throughout their care.
In addition to orthodontics, Iβve pursued advanced education in TMJ (temporomandibular joint) therapy, sleep apnea treatments, and myofunctional therapy. I firmly believe in a holistic approach to dental care, understanding that oral health isnβt just about teeth but about the entire systemβthe muscles, joints, and airway that work together to create overall well-being. Whether it's helping patients manage chronic jaw pain, addressing sleep-disordered breathing, or guiding them through myofunctional therapy to improve their oral posture and function, Iβm deeply invested in making a comprehensive difference in their lives.
Outside the office I enjoy spending time with my family. My son and daughter keep me busy! I thrive in the hustle of our fast-paced lifestyle, always looking for ways to stay active and make lasting memories with my loved ones.
Dental Assistant / Treatment Coordinator
I am a registered dental assistant here at Northwest Dental Centre and completed my certification in Alberta in 2020.
I was raised in Atlanta, Georgia and have family from Jamaica.
My team tells me that I provide a welcoming, approachable, and positive energy to the practice which I believe flows into the genuine relationships I form with our clients.
My passion is working chair-side with clients and helping educate and empower them to make healthy decisions for their dental health, which is what ultimately led me to choosing a profession in the dental field.
I love Canada and the people - except the cold! I like to spend as much time as possible travelling and exploring all warm bodies of water. I hope to one day have seen them all.
I am currently away taking my Dental Hygiene Program and will return in 2025.
